HISTORICAL SOCIETY PROGRAMS

All programs are held on the first Thursday of each month unless otherwise noted at 7:00 P.M. inside the Christian R. Harris Memorial Hall which is located next to the Heritage House at the corner of 8th and D Streets in San Bernardino. They are open to the public free of charge, so bring a friend!

Early Rail Lines Around San Bernardino  

Jim Wood will talk about Early Rail Lines Around San Bernardino.

For well over a century, San Bernardino has been a rail town and hub for a variety of lines. Using images, he will describe the first steam trains that arrived into town, the various local lines, the horse-pulled cars, the electrified systems and the restoration of steam locomotive 3751.
Jim will also point out remnants of historic lines that still exist.

Dr. Ernest Garcia's program centers on various aspects of his life and how his parents were converted Baptists in a South Colton barrio where 95% of the folks were Catholic. It deals with some discrimination but also with many fun ways to co-exist during the depression years of the 1930s and early 1940s.

History of The National Orange Show  

San Bernardino Historical and Pioneer Society President, Steven Shaw will talk about the history of the National Orange Show. Although the heyday of this popular annual event—first held in 1911-- has long sense passed, much of its history has been preserved on postcards, photos, and film.  During the presentation, Steve will share his 25 -year collection of ephemera from the National Orange Show and will show photos and motion pictures of the yearly event.
